I'm MOVING....soon

I'm still setting up my new home hence me not really posting amongst other things.

I'm on work travel right now.... when I'm back I'll finish setting up my new digs and redirect you all so you can update your feeds, readers, your blogroll & links, etc....

Then I'll shut it down over here..

EVERYTHING will be in ONE PLACE.. Fitness, Financials & Life no need in maintaining 3 separate blogs..

I had even purchased my own domain BUT I made a blunder while doing so and realized AFTER that it wouldn't work in the capacity I wanted.. SOOOO oh well I took one for the team..

Now off to my conference..

Weekend Recap...

It was another busy weekend.. both kids had competitions this past weekend.. I was with my daughter and my mom went with my son.. I'm so happy this sunday I will get to see my son fight :) My daughter's next competition isn't until May and I can go to all of his until then!! YIPPEE The photo above is a *not so good* action shot of her during her solo performance.

Anywhoo.. My daughter got 5th Place overall in the Secondary Solo division. She was the only hip hop to place overall or to receive a high score. The higher scores went to those who performed tap, lyrical or jazz pieces. It's very interesting from competition to competition what the judges like LOL The competition at this one was a lot stiffer than her last one and even she said ma.. I may not place.. I told her not to worry about it.. as long as you did your best who cares..

She felt like a superstar when we went to lunch though.. it's nothing like being congratulated by your peers ESPECIALLY those you don't know.. The funniest part of the day.. 4 dancers from another studio came up to her and asked for her autograph.. HEEELARIOUS!!! oh my lord.. and then the tiniest of them all said to her.. *your solo was so cool.. I'm going to do that one day.. you rock* She beemed with pride, stayed humble and said thank you and signed their books.. they took photos and exchanged email addresses.. boy the experiences are all worth it..

Here is a photo at the awards ceremony when they announced the top 5 in the category.. Can you tell which one is mine? hahahaaa

Her Group Hip Hop went on to win an Elite Top 1st award and 1st place overall for Secondary Small Groups.. they also copped the Most Entertaining Award and All the Right Moves Award....that was HOT!!!! Her Group Tap was also in that category and placed 3rd overall.. THEY HAD A GOOD DAY. Her Jazz routine did well in their category but did not score high enough to place overall.

Moving on to Bruce Leroy

I really have to get my mom better equipped with digital equipment!! she took about 15 photos and NONE of them contained him.. you can see his foot or his arm but never him!!! hahahaaaa but I ain't mad.. Mama Shorty tried!!!

He did well and from what I understand the tournament was not very well organized as a few of the staff who were supposed to work *didnt show up* WTF.. but I digress

He got 1st place in forms and has been nicknamed Mr. Technique by the other black belts in his division.. FUNNY and he got 2nd place in sparring.. although he did fair better than he did in previous tournaments.. he technically got 3rd.. at the end of the fight they realized the guy that he had lost to 7-6 actually fought a GIRL first hahahaaaa that he lost too :) YOU GOTTA LOVE THAT.. GIRLS ROCK!!! teehehee sooo its all good!

Sunday he has the AAU Potomac Valley Qualifier so we'll be there.. I'm so excited and proud of my babies..

I took them to dinner on Sunday at TGI Friday's.. that's where they wanted to go and we had a ball.. Highlight of my weekend.. my son is placing his drink order and says.. *Do you have Shirley Temple's here?* ABSOLUTELY DONE.. I turned to him like WHAT? then he says.. 2 of them.. one for me and one for my sister.. and turns to my mom and says.. Grandma what do you want? HAHAHAAAAA

Kids.. you gotta love'em!

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

I caught this play 2 weekends ago. I wasn't sure if I wanted to post on it but a few folks mentioned they were interested in seeing it.

It's on a limited engagement and well I'm GLAD I did get to see it BUT I think it was more HYPE than it was worth the fuss.

Star Power DEFINITELY plays a great deal in this play. It was the first time done by an all black cast. It was Terra.nce Howard's debut on broadway and he did a great job playing a drunk LOL No seriously he did an excellent job in his role.. NOW Jam.es Ear.l Jon.es stole the show to me as Big Daddy :) I so loved him!!!

Although I get the significance of the role of Ani.ka No.ni Ro.se.. good lawd I wanted to jump on stage and shut her up!!! No wonder that man (her husband was Howard) drank so damn much.. LOL outside of fighting the demons in his head, he was trying to shut her up too!!! From the time the show opened she was talking!!!

BUT her wardrobe was off the chain!!! and it gave me some ideas for a few pieces to add to my lingerie wardrobe :) LOL but I digress..

Her name escapes me but the girl from Ma.dea's Family Reuni.on did an EXCELLENT job although that high pitched drawl worked my last nerve LOL I thought she did a good job. Phyl.icia Ra.shad was ok.. I've seen her in other roles on broadway and she's done better..

Overall it was a great show BUT with that level of talent on one stage I guess I was just expecting more. I just heard they are extending it through June 15th.. and Bor.is Kod.joe is going to be play Brick (Howard's role) from April 15 -May 22nd and then Howard returns..

INTERESTING....

I’m IT

So Sixty tagged Roycee to bring her out of her nonpostingself and she goes and tags ME!!! Very interesting tag so I don't mind doing it.

So here we go

1. Post these rules before presenting your list.
2. List 6 actions or achievements you think every person should accomplish before turning 18.
3. There are no conditions on what can be included on the list.
4. At the end of your blog, choose 6 people to get tagged and list their names.
5. People who are tagged write their own blog entry with their 6 suggestions.
6. Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them they're tagged.

Now when I think about this I'm wondering WOW.. 18 accomplish by 18???? Whew..

  1. Own a savings account – although this was started by my mother at birth and I had a *passbook* ya'll remember those? Anyway I had a savings account and it felt good to deposit money in on a monthly basis and watch it grow. Those funds help me through college when I lost my scholarship amongst other things. Now a days with the easy access of a debit card, the value of money for kids isn't the same. My kids have 2 accounts, one that they can't touch and the other they have access too but it's a needs/wants account. The bulk of their funds is in their no touch savings.
  2. Understand money/credit – Just as those before me said I have to say it again. Understand the value of a dollar and how to manage your CREDIT. I understood how to manage my money BUT the thing called credit ha.. that was something new.. that was FREE money *was I so wrong* I had more CC's than I needed by the end of my freshman year and it did nothing for me but PUT ME IN DEBT.. take it from someone who had to work their way back into the positive.. you don't need more than ONE.
  3. Stay Active/Get Involved – whether it's through volunteering, sports, whatever.. STAY ACTIVE! It's sad to see how many of our kids take for granted all the resources available to them. As a child I was always active with sports and volunteering in my community and others. It taught me a greater sense of self and endured my nurturing and giving spirit. I know it has a lot to do with the path I've chosen as my career and I don't regret it. Find an organization or join a club/team at school.. IT'S WORTH IT
  4. Take Advantage of Educational & Professional Opportunities – while in HS there is an abundance of opportunities for you to take advantage of.. USE THEM.. it will provide additional opportunities for you for college and after. It's called BUILDING YOUR NETWORK. Roycee said she visited colleges, she did college tours and visited family members in college. I didn't do any college tours OUTSIDE of those that were recruiting me. If you have the opportunity for a college tour, TAKE IT. If you have the opportunity for an internship in your field of study, TAKE IT. It's not always about money.. if you can get experience in a field that interests you, TAKE IT. When you take all of these opportunities – do well at them.. someone is always watching AND it will come back to help you later.. you will ALWAYS NEED A REFERENCE/RECOMMENDATION
  5. SOCIAL SKILLS/ETIQUETTE – It's ok you grew up in the hood, you have to be "hard" all the time.. BUT that's not the real world.. Understand how to TALK to people. How to hold a CONVERSATION. Ladies, sit with your legs closed in a skirt/dress not like you on the corner. Fellas, pull ya pants up I don't need to see your underwear, tie ya shoes up.. your kicks should not look like you got on slippers! Learn to open the door for a lady. Ladies, learn how to be a lady. Know what fork to use, etc.. I'm just saying.. HAVE SOME MANNERS your reputation will follow you forever.
  6. Find a Mentor – This is helpful for both male & females. Someone older who can help guide you through the trials of life. They have some life experiences they can share and guide you. Fresh mentioned this too.. he hit it on the head. It doesn't have to be the same person over time mine changed as well. In HS it was my one of my Math Teachers & my Steno teacher, then it was my track coach, then a professor or two.. As you get older it will change to someone in your field of interest.. Value those relationships, treasure them.. they will help you grow.

So I'm supposed to tag 6 folks.. Who can I tag… I'm going with Jameil, Chrissy, Honey Libra, Natural Muze, The Diva's Thoughts, and Ms. Lee to help her out her procrastinating funk LOL

I Heart Word 07

I'm still feeling my way around the Off.ice 2007 Suite but I have to say I do heart Word.

I love that I can blog directly from there. I enjoy being able to just capture my thoughts and then publish whenever I am ready. It has become my creative canvas *not just for blogging* but for a lot of my work.

The suite itself presents a lot of new features that takes some getting used to but once you get familiar it won't be a problem.

My EA background and my Techie nature has me manipulating the software to do what I need it to do.

I'll be sure to give my feedback on the other parts of the suite as I begin to use them.. I'm working on Power.point now

My Eye Candy of the Day

Ok this here Trini boy got me hot and bothered this morning.. Thanks to my coworker she sent me some photos and boy did it make me wake up this morning!!!

THEN I decided to visit his site.. and well Mmmm

Nothing wrong with a lil eye candy.. with my yogurt & granola..

Damn..

Yes that is my background on my laptop now.. Hello Mr. Karter..

Ok back to work..

My Social Calendar...

Is filling up PRETTY QUICKLY.. but not the way you may think!!!

My social calendar is being filled BY MY KIDS!!!! ha!

So PLEASE understand when you ask me on a date if I'm unavailable.. I'M A MOM

When you ask me to hang out with the girls... I'm a MOM

When you ask me to come to your events.. I'm a MOM

When you send an evite for your promotional companies latest event... I'm a MOM

When you ask to come through to watch the game and I say sure but I may not be home.. I'M A MOM

Understand that my children come first.. and their activites ARE my social calendar..

I'm not trying to be DIFFICULT, or UNAVAILABLE.. I'm just HANDLING MY BUSINESS..

My kids come first.. and if I can fit it in AFTERWARDS.. great.. if not.. I'm missing the bus on this one.. Sorry..

So yes while I am able to make it to a few concerts, comedy shows, card parties, wine tastings, dinners, housewarmings, etc.. they all fall on OFF weekends from my kids OR after I've fulfilled my motherly duties..

So don't be offended, don't feel slighted.. if you can work with me & my schedule.. I can work with you & your schedule...

So have your people call my people and if it works out.. COOL.. if not, Rome wasn't built in a day.. and neither was my schedule..
